Dear Brethren,

The season of spring is upon us and as we prepare for the many things that have started to blossom in our lives, we should never forget the successful seasons which have passed, though it seems like it’s already been here for quite a while. We certainly needed the rain and snow, but the sunny days are pleasant indeed.

These coming months, we will be executing our fundraising and first Charity event of the year. I would like to personally Thank everyone in advance for everyone’s generosity and support to our cause. Kudos to our Fundraising Committee who are diligently executing their assigned duties.

As we look further ahead, which also promises to be another busy months with applicants waiting for admission. Depending on their investigation results and availability of our Officers, we may be conducting multiple staggered conferrals during the months ahead. Our Bro. Senior Warden is always at labor in getting all our conferrals scheduled on the upcoming months.

As we continue to meet the challenges of having so many great candidates and Brothers moving through their degrees, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the Officers, and members of Chino Valley Lodge 427, who wholeheartedly support this effort and continue to perform outstanding and memorable work for the benefit of our candidates! In addition, I also like to thank all Coaches for working diligently with your candidates and being a great mentor and example of Freemasonry. (“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn” –Collins 2019) Thank you all again for your time and hard work. You may not see your efforts making an impact on others, but we all do.

Moreover, I also want to thank the Brethren who may not have a part of the Ritual but are no less important to our success by being there week after week to show their support for our candidates by filling the sidelines. There is no better way to show our newly obligated Bethren our dedication to their Masonic journey than by being there in person to demonstrate our commitment to their choice to join Chino Valley Lodge #427.

I encourage everyone to join us, at this month’s Stated Meeting on Friday, April 14th. This month, we celebrate Public School’s Month which we will be having a fundraising solely for this program to continually support Chino’s HOPE program on May 6th (Cinco De Mayo Taco Fest). On Thursday, April 27th is OSI for all Officers at Upland-Mt. Baldy Lodge. The topic is the 1st Section of the 3rd Degree. In closing, the month of April will be a time of many new beginnings and adventure. It is also a chance to rebuild and polish what we have previously started and continue to hope for a better and brighter future. We’ll continue to do great work. Serving others is not a burden, but a requirement to establish our Honor.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

John Ehrlich Kiley
CVML 427, WM

May the Blessing of Heaven rest upon us and all regular Masons. May brotherly love prevail, and every moral and social virtue cement us.

.

Brethren,
Warm greetings to everyone. First, I would like to commend my fellow officers and members of CVML 427 for attending our monthly OSI’s. It has been evident in the past 3 months that our lodge have been filling up seats during these meetings and are always ready to participate in degree works which clearly shows our enthusiasm and willingness to advance our knowledge of our craft.

Let us continue to absorb what we can and share what we can, for our lodge and for our district as well. Secondly, time flies by so fast and April is already in our midst. May I therefor remind those who are moving up, may it be officers, I myself included, or candidates to keep working on each one’s written or oral proficiency, whichever may apply.

Lastly, may I, along with our fundraising committee, solicit everyone’s support and again extend our cable tow to our upcoming lodge fundraisers particularly the Bowling event on April 1st and Golf Tournament on April 15th. Congratulations to our newly obligated Bro. Rodjade Duran Penaverde and to the conferral team most especially to Bro. Paul Kiley who sat in the East for the first time and did a great job, for Bro. Robert Ofoob for his excellent delivery as Senior Deacon. For Bro Horace Daway, who did an outstanding delivery of the charge on short notice.

It has been the lodge’s norm to do degrees on the first week of every month as per our Worshipful Master’s time table, however, in the observance of Holy Week, which falls on the first week of April, the lodge will forego conferrals, instead, our schedule will be moved and set on May 2nd for the Second-Degree conferral of brother Paul Klinefleter. Again, your presence is highly enjoined.

Fraternally,
Bro. Anthony Wesley Baguiwet
Senior Warden

THE FIRST DEGREE

The first degree in Masonry inculcates a knowledge of himself, and rightly understood, teaches the Initiate how he may “in the beginning” re-create himself. Man becomes king of the brutes by subduing or taming them. Brutes are fit types of our passions and are the instinctive forces of nature. Physical laws are mill- stones; if you are not the miller, you must be the grain. To attain the sancto sanctorum, you must possess four indispensable capacities: an intelligence illuminated by study; an intrepidity which nothing can check; a will which nothing can break; and a discretion which nothing can corrupt, and nothing intoxicate. “To know, to dare, to will, and to keep silence” were the four indispensable conditions for gaining admission into the an- cient mysteries and are true today for real initiates. Have you really studied yourself? Are you insensible to temptation? Have you overcome the vortices of vague thoughts? Are you without indecision? Do you consent to pleasure when you will or when you should? To be able and to forbear is to be twice able. To learn self- conquest is to learn life. The intelligence and will of man are instruments of incalculable power and capacity. Properly directed imagination is a helpmeet, coupled with intelligence and will, that will make man almost om- nipotent. Who would be a slave to his senses when he may be a king and reign with power and intelligence?

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK
At our last stated meeting we, read and approved the demit of one member but we also read and accepted one application of degrees. Even as the Grand Lodge reports that as nearly 10 percent of its overall membership was lost due to the pandemic, our Lodge still is most vibrant among the Lodges in the District. We have 4 knockers, 1 applicant ready to be initiated, 8 EAM and 3 FCM and more are signifying their intention to join Masonry. We also have 7 inquiries referred to our Lodge by the Grand Lodge. Degree conferrals are scheduled in the succeeding months. Be ready to assist in other Lodges in the District as its only Chino Valley Lodge that is qualified for now to confer the 3 rd Degree. The other Lodges are looking up to us.

Complementing our membership are the different programs of our Worshipful Master; our Family get together activities, fund raising, together with the Community and Civic affairs. Several activities are scheduled this April and May; Bowling, Cleaning Activities, Golf Tournament, Blood Letting Derive and others. Please do not forget our Stated meeting on April 14, 2023. Let us all join hands Brethren as we elevate our Lodge to higher pedestal in annals of California Freemasonry.

As the candidates coach, we changed coursed in our method of mentoring and coaching. We assign mentors/coaches to candidates and the mentors/coach will be the one performing as the examiner
during proficiencies. This method is reaping fruits at this early stage as we monitor the progress of candidates and their mentors. The other officers are also leveling up with only two having to have their proficiencies in the 3 rd Degree. Notice is hereby given to those who have not paid their Annual Dues yet. You are now in arrears and if this is the second year you have not paid, you are due for suspension.

OBIT from the Grand Lodge

May I also enjoin everyone to pray for the repose of the souls of the following:
1. Bro Dennis C Shafter, the Grand Pursuivant in 1979 -1980. He was born in September 1, 1942 and entered into rest in March 13, 2023.
2. Bro Paul L. Owyang the Grand Junior Steward in 1991-1992. He was born in October 19, 1928 and entered into rest in February 25, 2023.
3. Carolyn J Maynard, Wife of Past Grand Master Harry L Maynard. Born in June 17, 1934 and entered into rest in March 1, 2023.
